Space
Quest 6 Fixes
Problems
running SQ6 on Windows 2000, ME, NT and XP?
If you're
having problems running Space Quest 6 on a modern computer,
try DOSBox.
It's a program that emulates the DOS environment.
On modern
computers running NT-based Windows versions (2000, ME, NT and
XP), it's likely you run into many different sound problems.
A program called VDMSound
might be able to fix 99% of these problems. It emulates the
good old sound blaster card, which is perfect for the Space
Quest games. VDMSound is free to use, so download a copy and
give it a try.
You'll probably
get much better sound if you change the sound driver of SQ6
to General MIDI. Make sure when you run install.exe that General
MIDI is selected.
When
I try to run install the game, the Setup program crashes!
Run the
Setup program but DON'T run the system test. The program will
display a warning. Just ignore it, and install the game anyway.
If Setup fails to load after it had crashed, restart your computer
and run Setup again.
My
screen disappears when I climb down to the tapeworm!
Simply turn off scrolling before climbing down, or try the timer
fixes.
"Could
not open robot resource 410"
The
error message "Could not open robot
resource 410" which appears on
some people's systems at Stellar's Funeral is NOT a timer bug;
it means
that the game can't find the 410.RBT file. Make sure that the "robot=
line in the RESOURCE.CFG (DOS version)/RESOURCE.WIN (Windows)
file
points to the directory where the 410.RBT file resides (for
example, E:\ROBOTS).
